Then let's get music-makin'

Our story

Let's face it: life is pretty tough sometimes.
The way we see it, music shouldn't be tough too.
That's why we've worked out a way to make music an easy choice, day in and day out.

Luke Haefner wears many hats—educator, multi-instrumentalist, award-winning composer, piano technician—but he is a community member first. As a student at Queens University of Charlotte, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Concentration in Composition, Luke approached his interest in academics with a public-good mindset. He began his career as a peer educator in the Center for Student Success where he used his excitement about learning to support his fellow students by tutoring music theory, time management, and writing. As a recipient of the Noble Fellowship, Luke researched flaws in the justice system, working with the Freedom Fighting Missionaries to develop a functional framework for the collaboration between arts communities and non-profits.

All the while, Luke has maintained a private lesson studio where he works to educate the next generation of musicians. Among his top priorities is the cultivation of an artistic community centered around learning, creativity, and joy. He believes that the role of a teacher is not simply to teach, but to support their students in whatever ways possible. To support is to allow for exploration, to approach the learning space without judgement, and to be an active part of his students’ lives in whatever way they need. In that capacity, Luke has been known to attend his students’ talent shows, school musicals, or even their baseball games when invited.

In short, Luke’s goal with Songhorse is simple: to combine convenience, music, and community to create something meaningful for everyone involved.
